What to expect – your journey with Thames Speech & Language
My goal is to make the process clear, supportive, and collaborative from the beginning.
Here’s how I will work with you from first contact to ongoing sessions.
1. Make contact
You send an email enquiry or referral.
I will respond to arrange a time for a brief phone conversation to learn more about your concerns and answer initial questions.
2. Initial Phone Call
We’ll have a short conversation to:
- Discuss your situation
- Clarify goals and priorities
- Talk about suitability for services
- Answer your questions about therapy
This helps ensure we are a good fit before moving forward.
3. Appointment confirmation
If we decide to proceed, you will receive:
- A confirmation email
- Client intake form
- Terms & Conditions and cancellation policy
The intake form can be returned prior to the appointment or completed together at the first session.
If sessions are home-based, your address will be confirmed at this stage.
4. First session
The first session focuses on:
- Building rapport
- Understanding communication strengths and needs
- Observing play, interaction, and speech/language skills
- Discussing next steps
Where appropriate, this session may include informal assessment and diagnostic therapy to guide goal setting.
5. Ongoing therapy
Sessions are typically 45 minutes and may include:
- Direct therapy
- Parent and communication partner coaching
- Collaborative goal setting
- Strategy development for home or early learning settings
Therapy is always tailored to the individual and grounded in evidence-based practice.
6. Review and progress
Progress is reviewed regularly.
Goals may evolve over time as skills grow and priorities change. Reports or additional consultation can be arranged where needed.
A Collaborative Approach
Speech-language therapy works best when it is a partnership. Families and caregivers play an essential role in supporting communication growth.
My aim is to provide practical, sustainable strategies that fit into everyday life.
